VOD requirements for non-Japanese categories

Currently, times on the leaderboards for English categories only require VODs if it is a world record in the category. The thinking behind this is that not only does it show proof that the run actually happened. but forcing such a requirement encourages people to make their runs public more, if they wish to have their times recognized, allowing greater transparency in strats. Additionally, VODs are a large part of the Twitch community and it is not difficult to make one, so the issue with Japanese runs does not apply here. However, a few people have objected to the status quo in various ways, so if anyone feels like this policy should be changed somehow, they can do so here.

I honestly don't like the whole "You need a VOD" mentality, solely because it's incredibly difficult for me to actually upload anything in a quality that's watchable. However, I also see why people want it that way, since it makes finding out strats incredibly easy, instead of a tedious effort of asking the runner questions over and over again. It also makes it easy for people to learn runs, since you have a video to see exactly how things are done. Keeping it the way it is now, where the record needs video "proof", seems like the best way to do things.

I feel VODs should be required for the top 3rd times in a category for all non-Japanese categories. This is so other runners that always do have video proof of their runs readily available are able to properly compete against other runners in the category they choose to run and are not competing against phantom times that may of came out of nowhere. This I feel will encourage more competition since runners will know the times they are competing against actually took place and they are able to watch the runs themselves.

The following would be an example if this was implemented: So if there were 9 runners in any given non-Japanese category, The top 3 best runners must have VODs or their times will be removed if runners that actually do have videos of their runs are on the board for the category in question.

However if a category only has 3 total runners, only the world record holder would need to have a VOD.

This is just my opinion but if a leader board allows too many runners to post times without evidence, it doesn't stop many people from exaggerating what time they may actually really have had or didn't have especially since there are certain runners that always have VODs no matter the situation or circumstance when they do decide to publicly lay claim to a personal best in any given category.

I agree with SrWatcher.
It's not necessary to have all the people making a full VODs and we can estipulate a rule like this:

- The firsts three times must have a VOD. If there are only three runners, the three runners must have a VOD.
- The other times don't need a full VOD but if they want to submit the time they need to show some video proof about the existence of the run (a highlight or a past broadcast) and the admins of the site (Chuckolator for example) have the right to accept or not that time according to their judgment, always objectively.
Evidently the people can question a time without VOD if there's a reason to doubt about it.

I agree with this. Requiring the first three times to have a VOD no matter what sounds pretty fair to any other runner that is in a non-Japanese category.

I also find it to be a pretty straight forward way to guarantee the top 3 times of every non-Japanese category are kept completely legitimate.

I agree with having vids for the top 3 times of each category, I can also understand if someone has an issue with not being able to provide a 'watchable' video, Not everyone streams their attempts and has a good capture/recording device. It's easy to say for us streamers who do runs that providing a video is simple. Not everyone can provide a good one due to upload speeds ect.

that top 3 times have a VoD sounds to be the best way to go about it, That way you can also almost always know its gonna be a Legit run,

Upon further reflection, I would prefer all non-Japanese category times to require VODs.

I feel that requiring all non-Japanese categories to have VODs will encourage a much more healthy competition between runners of all skill levels. There will be no mystery to why the the runner either ahead of or behind your time has their time as you will be able to watch their run to see why and how they finished the game in the time that they did.

I feel this could also encourage more sharing of strategies among runners of different skill levels as well as someone may be able to give tips to someone pulling a really bad time (since they would also have a video).

Even if runners weren't to share any tips, tricks, or strategies, I feel that having video evidence for every run makes the leader board that they're all displayed on, much more legitimate overall as far as showing runs that are able to be watched afterwards at any point in time.

I agree, but do you think having all times requiring VODs could deter some people from learning FF runs in the first place (e.g. not being able to stream) and will choose to learn other games instead if they won't get officially recognised for their efforts? Granted its better to make the leaderboard as legitimate as possible (to weed out cheaters) but this is my only small concern.

I don't think not having their times listed will deter them from learning the games. In fact, I think it will only stand to encourage them to record their runs and invest in capture equipment.

Yeah, after some consideration, I do feel the same way as srwatcher. For example, I was linked to the FF13 community's own leaderboards just now, with times on there that are absent from our list that both qualify for top 3 and don't, and the feeling that came to me a lot was "Why should some times be included and some excluded, with the same amount of proof, just because some are not as good?" I guess thinking that has turned my opinion to making all times require VODs. Not that I necessarily believe that the times listed are false, but the "burden of proof" only affects some runners, and I now feel that that should be more consistent. Does anyone else want to throw in their two cents?

I don't think that all videos should have to have times unless they are top three, provided that someone who moderates the Wiki or a group of regarding community members can vouch that the time actually occurred (and even then I am not sure about the top three; see my following explanation). If a runner can show a wiki-editor that the run actually happened, then how can we deny that?

A concern with this would be, for example, if XeroKynos suddenly deleted all of his FF7 videos. We all know how fast he did them because we saw it, and the time that is posted is a legitimate time. Not having the video there doesn't suddenly mean that he never did the run, and it doesn't move the number two runner to suddenly be the WR holder. Interestingly, this almost goes right into the "removing times from the leaderboard at the request of the runner" thing. What has happened has happened, it can't be undone or unseen.

Yes… Delete Brossentia, EssentiaFour, and Spikevegeta's runs for the sake of proof because they are not trustworthy Kappa. Sounds good to me. Oh and accept great quality VOD's like the FFX HD WR.
